Rick Kratz at Sand Cave, Cumberland National Park I fell in love with the Smokies on a family vacation when I was just 12. I told my parents, “I’m going back there”. And, in 1996, I did. Since then I have hiked and backpacked most of the trails in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I have been interested in nature as long as I can remember. I believe I have just taken the next step by trying to capture moments in time with my camera. I enjoy taking photographs of anything in the wild. However, I have to admit, black bears are my favorite. Every time I see one, it still feels like the very first time. I enjoy the challenge of getting a good photo, am self-taught and still learning. I really hope you enjoy my photos. I hope they bring you a little closer to this amazing wonder called the Smoky Mountains that I call home.
