This Side of Summer Lone Branch – the perfect name for the perfect place to let go of summer.
Sometimes it needs to be a private farewell, especially as the years go by. Children, of course, never stop to say good-bye to the season they were made for. Abandoned barns, Queen Anne Laced fields and disappearing creeks are their summer address. In roving herds, they squeal and squeeze every last drop of glee out of those last glorious days with sixteen hour chunks of sunlight. After forty or so summer send-offs, however, the first geese overhead re-emerging in a maize and mauve sky is an occasion for reflection. Near the banks of Lone Branch, the artist revisits perhaps his favorite place in his home county – inaccessible except by footpath. Here with only Brown-Eyed Susans as witness, experience a sweet reverie over a season well-lived, just This Side of Summer.
