Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. An original friend of the Smokies, the brown bear navigates deliberately down an unforgiving slate ledge in a luminous coppery sunset, the cool evening mists roll in like the tide. Foraging has been good so far today, and his nose tells him something worth investigating is nearby. As day turns over the keys to a chilling autumn night, his most pressing issue is simply Finding the Way .... home. Finding The Way to Help The artist who captured our friend here on the ledge in time and space, in color and dimension, is an ardent supporter of the Friends of the Smokies. As original Charter Members, Robert and Mary John Tino joined only 149 other donors in 1993 to provide start-up funding for the Friends. Since then, the group, with more than 40,000 supporters nationwide, has raised more than $24 million to provide science education programs, restore historic structures, research and protect black bear and elk populations, and save the eastern hemlock trees. In special benefit auctions and in donations of original art and print proceeds, the combined influence of the Robert Tino Gallery has resulted in contributions of more than $100,000. Kicking off the 2009 75th Anniversary of the Great Smoky National Park, the Gallery will donate a portion of the sale from this Official 75th Anniversary Limited Edition and Giclée for the Park's lasting preservation. Long celebrated for his extraordinary talent to capture specific favorite spots, vistas and haunts throughout the Smokies, Finding the Way is unique in that it is a grand celebration of it all, emerging solely from his imagination – inspired by 25 years of exploring and painting this spectacular Park from as many vantages as possible. So now it becomes the perfect opportunity for you to find the way to help protect this treasured gift passed into our hands for our stewardship. And all the friends of the Park will be grateful to you. The signature fundraising initiative connected to the Park’s 75th Anniversary is the Friends’ Trails Forever campaign, which is funding a new, permanent trail improvement crew in the Smokies.
