What's the difference between dry mounting, vacuum mounting and museum mounting? PDF Print E-mail

Mounting is an important part of the framing process that keeps your artwork from wrinkling and buckling inside the frame as it ages.

Dry mounting is a technique of mounting where a heat-sensitive, acid-free tissue is placed between your artwork and a mounting board, and is then heated to melt the tissue and bond the artwork to the board.

Vacuum mounting is a technique of mounting where the back of your artwork is sprayed with a glue adhesive and placed in a press with the mounting board until the adhesive cures. The vacuum press suctions out all air pockets and wrinkles so that the artwork is smoothly and permanently bonded to the mounting board.

Museum mounting is a technique of mounting where no tapes, glues or adhesives touch your artwork. The artwork floats in acid-free sleeves to preserve and protect the value of collectible artwork. Other mounting methods can reduce the value of museum or collectible art. The artwork can be taken out of the frame, and it will be as though it has never been framed.

Does Glenstone Galleries and Gifts frame needlework? PDF Print E-mail

We frame all types of needlework and fabric art. That includes crewel, cross-stitch, needlepoint, pedi-point, tapestries, rugs, batiks, molas, and all other types of handmade fabric art.

What kind of glass should I use? PDF Print E-mail

Glenstone Galleries and Gifts recommends conservation glass. There are two options available:

  • "Conservation clear" glass filters out 99% of ultraviolet light to protect your artwork, and has a clear finish.
  • "Museum" glass filters out 99% of ultraviolet light, and has an anti-reflective finish that gives the illusion of no glass.

If it's worth framing, it's worth framing to last.

Can I use my own framing materials? PDF Print E-mail

We will do the entire framing order or any part of it with your materials if you choose. We have had clients bring in their own frames, their own glass, their own mattes, and we will complete the rest of the order.

No job is too big or too small.

How long will my framing order take? PDF Print E-mail

Typically framing takes between one and two weeks, depending on design options and materials needed to complete the job. If you choose a one-of-a-kind handmade framing option, this may takes several weeks for completion.

If you need an order done in a hurry, we can offer a rush service with materials we have in stock -- depending on the time of day you place your order, we may even be able to complete it that day!
